Kill the Rabbit, Kill the Rabbit

Found by Caleb Smith in Joplin, Missouri

I found this old photograph along with some others in the flea market. I was pretty sad to see someone throw away a photo with such character. These men lived only 60 years ago, and no one cared to keep this picture of them.

The Title of this Find is misspelled.. it should, ovcoarse, be “Kill the Wabbit” (in Elmer Fudd’s voice… “ohh Bwuun-hilda! you’we so wuv-wee…!”). Photo Finds have always been my favorites. I hate to see “heritage” photos in flea markets, second hand stores and antique stores. (usually each spring I get a wild hare and peruse my local antique stores- of which there are many- adopting other peoples’ discarded Ancestors.)

I love the two very distinct hat styles.

Do you suppose the photo was actually taken in Missouri? For some reason, I thought Missouri had a balmier climate than that. Hmm.

Oh.. and Joplin is in Jasper County, MO. Found free association of the day:

“Jasper Jasper I LoVe JaspEr. hE iS the BeST dog By Sara.”

I also peruse the heritage photos at flea markets and thrift stores, and there are always some I can’t resist buying. But they are way too expensive. Dollar photos add up fast. Honestly, photos of people no one knows shouldn’t cost more than a dime, or maybe a quarter.

Missouri isn’t balmy in the winter. Between dips in the jet stream and the winds blowing across the Great Plains, it can be downright frigid for long stretches of time (or could be back before climate change set in).
