could this be one of those memorial photos? back in the day, people would sometimes pose/prop up the recently deceased and paint “eyes” on their closed eyelids and take a photograph with them. photography was so new back then that sometimes the only photo taken of a person was after they’d died. it is also called “memento mori”.
