I found this left at a table in the coffee shop where I work. I just think it is so beautiful and touching, it makes me happy every time I look at it.

I found this note today (Memorial Day, 2012) on the street walking back from a picnic in Prospect Park. It was laying face-up by itself and since I noticed it was a sizable handwritten note, my curiosity was piqued. When I started reading it, I figured it was a breakup note or an angry letter from a parent, but by the end assumed it was a cash gift to a once-spoiled child. The true story is still unclear.

I’m not sure exactly what “VOID” means in this case. Does it mean that they have already been used? Or does it mean that they are no longer valid? Maybe they had an expiration date or something. Or he made her mad at some point and she scribbled “VOID” on it out of spite. “Fer cripes sake woman, shut yer trap! I’m trying to play Halo!” Poor guy.

Recently, at the bar where I work, a girl locked herself in the bathroom and promptly passed out. After ultimately breaking the door down, the girl’s friends took her home; it was not until we closed that we found this note. Apparently the girl’s friend thought she just needed the promise of Bananas Foster to wake her up.

I found this card whilst helping with a carpet re-furb for a large hotel. I picked it up, read it and then threw it back on the floor before realising I had finally found something to post! I find it strange that it has been crossed out and “corrected” by what looks like adult hand writing.
