A friend of mine found two audio cassettes during a dumpster dive at Kalamazoo College in 1995. He has hung on to them for all these years and passed them on to me when he discovered my love of found sounds and hidden stories.
Contained on three sides is a long interview of one Sarah McClure, by, as far as I can tell, her grandchildren. It is a charming and haunting experience – with Sarah, very long in years, walking around a cemetery sharing stories about her life and her entire family who is buried there. She, at one point, says she is the only one left. These recordings were made during Decoration Day – a precursor to Memorial Day.
