We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
wow, that's somehow beautiful
Somehow, the broken English makes this feel more heartfelt than if it was written by some run-of-the-mill, native-English-speaker poet. Or could the broken English be intentional, as a demonstration of how this person of indiscriminate gender "can't speak in front of her well"?
Either way...boy, do I know how he (she?) feels. Does that make me creepy?
I love this. Absolutely love it. I can totally hear the author with his foreign accent.
I don't find it hilarious, only rather sad. It's a shame that they can't express themselves well enough to snag the girl.
Poor devil, I know just how he feels. Wonder why he was not able to answer from her. This is lovely.
I'm extremely tempted to print this out for my boyfriend and just mark out "her" everytime and put in "him" instead
this made my (quite early) morning.
poetic.. depressing.. poor kid
Awwwww. Poor boy. This is cute though.
I like how at the beginning, you're wondering if this person passed school and then, you get to the bottom and the line "I can't speak in front of her well" just sums up the whole thing. Deep. I love it. I absolutely love this poem.
That's heartbreakingly sweet.
it's very touching. I hope he's spoken to her and told her he loves her.
Aw, the poor kid. A first crush is sweet.
i wonder how old this guy is, im guessing hes in elem. school..its pretty funny to think of how we as kids use to write poems like this...but i agree its hilarious and poetic at the same time...great find!
How many ways he has expressed his love for her! Reminds me of 'How do I love thee, let me count the ways...'
Awh that's really sweet. He sounds non English - why would he write his diary in a language other than his first language?
This is my new favorite find. I wish I'd thought of using bad grammar back when they made us write poems in elementary school! Before I learned better I always used to write "But." with the period after it, the full stop adds a little something, I think.
I wonder if he ever worked up the nerve to approach this lady.
Aww, I love this! Its so sweet and honest, but so beautiful at the same time. This is a favourite, methinks. :D
"I confessed her on my mind." I love all of this.
Through all the mispellings and bad English, this is one of the most precious things I've seen on here. Go tell her that you love her!
ok kinda sweet, kinda creepy...
I just like the idea of someone having a 'cutty smile'. Like a cut-out paper doll.
that is sad, but also adorable. i hope he got to tell her, and i hope she felt the same.
this looks like something my Ecuadorian friend would write. He has such bad grammar (duh, he's spanish!) but i can still understand him..although, come to think of it, a lot of people can't...hmm.
As I am choosing to believe this is for reals, this is now my favorite find ever, right after or maybe tied with "You is been parkeen..."
This could seriously be published by a very hip modern author and sell a million copies in two minutes. In quite incredsible.
This poem is really sad. It's actually pretty fascinating with the broken English, because some of the words make the meaning somewhat ambiguous. It reminds me a bit of Italio Calvino (definitely a very very VERY amateur version, of course). The last line really makes it tragic, because he knows he can't speak well, and it obviously embarrasses him. Ironically, I think that last line might be the most grammatically correct of the entire poem.
On another point, it seems kind of cruel to pull something from someone's diary and post it (or at least admit it). But then I wonder why this guy is writing in his diary in broken English instead of his native tongue (of course he may be trying to get better, obviously, and practice makes perfect). Oh well, it's sad.
It is more sad and sweet than hillarious.
awwww....ESL note - incredibly sweet. please don't be judgenmental bitches about the grammar and spelling. "cutty" is _too_ cute-y! and i'm sure he means seet smell vs smelling.
he'd been in love almost a year at this point! i hope she saw through the language barrier to what a great guy he probably is.
go ahead, say it's creepy. i like. quite possibly my favorite found!
Sometimes, when I read things like this, I think that butchered versions of English are FAR better than the "correct" version can ever be.
This is adorable.
this is heartbreaking!
I don't try to stereotype but this writing is in the same style my mom's Korean frien speaks . He sent her a letter that said " The mother of my wife still is here. Why ? I don't know this but she is here from October and I do not know why. "
Tragic.
very sweet, slightly sad, beautiful sentiment. we all know what he means. i hope he is with her now or happy with someone else
My new favorite find.
someone needs to set this to music.
broken english love poem. nice. its like me after too much coffee.
This is sweet-sad. It's full of longing and passion.
I get the feeling that English may not be the writer's first language.
This is quite possibly the most romantic thing i have ever set eyes on. oh how I wish a sweet, broken english-speaking boy would write me a love note. I think the best "love note" I have received went something like: 'I miss you a ton and we should really get together.' Turns out gretting together meant eating nachos with his guy friends. Whoooo Weeeee. He was a winner. ^^
Well Flargy, it's a good thing I'm not the grammar police!
i wish i had a cutty smile; i do, however, have a sweet smelling.
YES!! I was let down yesterday, but Sarah hooked me up today! Thanks Sarah! hehe
And lounge master vernon- I think I love you!
and Personman- which comment is 'you is been parkeen'? I must have missed it and I'm DYING to go read it!
My favorite find so far is pretty simple; it says: You are ded met
And I die laughing every single time.
i dont think this is from an elementary school kid. it sounds kind of like something that's happening to me right now (except im the "her") and i'm in high school.
Definitely a good thing, Rebecca, seeing as I left my spelling license and punctuation registration in my other car.
He writes just like a friend of mine from overseas.... or like Nigerian spam.... but I think this is such a beautiful find.
Ahhh...did this seriously not remind anyone else of Borat? I thought it could be a really funny joke between two people who liked the movie. Really it's just his impersonation of how non-english speakers speak that is similar.
I like the idea that it's serious though. My idea as to why he would write in his diary in a non-native language? To get better at it, duh, so he would have the courage to ask the girl out!! :)
I love the way he writes as he would speak: No, No... and the all of the wannas. I even like the penmanship. Something about the printing really does it for me. I agree with above poster, I think he's Korean. Dunno why, but that is what I pictured, too.
I wonder if cutty smile ever gave an answer.
I'd like to believe he got to do more than whiper after such a sweet confession.
I absolutely love it. Simple as that. :)
crap. i got a letter like this on valentine's day by a guy and i feel so bad for not yet responding back to him.
i haven't seen him anywhere...
I reminds me more of the book "Everything is Illuminated" by Jonathan Safran Foer. The feeling of the author is made more immediate and beautifully heartfelt by the broken English. This is a great find!
Where did you find this diary? If it was in Texas, I can direct you to the rightful owner! Le sigh. Such sweet sentiment. Romance is in the air.
HAHA Flargy, that was a clever response!
C'mon, reading and posting a private diary?
I don't find this hilarious. I find it cute and charming! I absolutely love this.
I don't think English is this person's second language. That's just my opinion. I like the way he leaves out the prepositions in some places, and he definitely knows the difference between "I wanna" and "I want to." This person knows what he's doing. I hope the lady got it. Because if she missed out on him, it's her great loss.
i think his english and use of each word is expression. Very romantic!
Drew from Athens, Ga: I love the book "Everything is Illuminated." This letter reminded me of that, too. :)
creepy?!
This almost looks like a note from the Zodiac Killer.
I wanna know what's on the back!!!
so.. there is an entire diary of this no?! i want more.
eggS??? Jo??? Where are you guys to spice this one up?
It reminded me of Everything is Illuminated, too! I love that book.
To the person who said he had been in love for almost a year, I think you're looking at the date the wrong way. He probably dated it the way most of the rest of the world does, day/month/year, rather than the American month/day/year, which would make it January 8th, which, like he said, is four months after September!
"why would he write his diary in a language other than his first language?"
for secrecy of course. that way a non-english speaking sibling won't know what he's writing about. ;)
who needs movies like "the notebook" when you've got this?
just lovely <3
I'm almost positive it was written by a Korean, and the author was not a child.
I'm almost positive it was written by a Korean, and the author was not a child.
I'm almost positive it was written by a Korean, and the author was not a child.
I agree that the date is like the rest of the world, day/month/year. Looking back at it, I don't think English is the authors second language. But it's still lovely. My favourite line is "My heart is getting ill".
I wish I had a cutty smile. And like Lucy in the Sky, I have a sweet smelling too.
I'd definitely guess Korean, or maybe Japanese, just from the handwriting alone.
wow, even though it isn't very well written, I find this truly beautiful!
This has the makings of a short story contest. In my imagination, he definitely gets the girl... when she finds the diary page posted on Foundmagazine.com!
"I wanna whisper her I like you.
I wanna speak her I like you.
I wanna cry her I like you.
I want to shout in front of her I love you"
i love how at first he's only wants to whisper to her that he likes her. and gradually his feelings grow and grow and hes becomes more sure of himself and he says he wants to SHOUT to her I LOVE YOU.
Maybe I'm blind, but what state was this found in?
Hehe I can hear Borat saying this, that's kind of how he talks ... you know, minus the vulgarities.
my boyfriend is coming in town this week after being gone for almost 2 and i think i will give this to him.
beautiful things make me so sad.
i wish he could talk to this girl.
This note is beautiful...From experience, loving someone who doesn't speak the same language is one of the most heartbreaking experiences ever...it reminds me of the Beatles song "Michele"
I'd definitely guess Japanese based on the writing and wording.
I'm getting so tired of these unrequited love notes. It's making me depressed. Where are all these sweet guys and WHY CAN'T I FIND ONE?
It seems like the grammer and writing of a young deaf or hard of hearing individual...beautiful...
poetry is a beautiful thing. I love the use of "her" in every line. This "her" is very lucky.
It's beautiful. I like to think a personality this sweet could attract the one he loves. Wherever you are, good luck.
