I Wanna
FOUND by Emma
I found this at my library. Somebody had forgotten his diary. It manages to be both hilarious and incredibly poetic at the same time.
maya in denial
wow, that's somehow beautiful
+ March 18, 2007 12:12 AM +
Flargy in the library...where the hell did I leave my diary???
Somehow, the broken English makes this feel more heartfelt than if it was written by some run-of-the-mill, native-English-speaker poet. Or could the broken English be intentional, as a demonstration of how this person of indiscriminate gender "can't speak in front of her well"?

Either way...boy, do I know how he (she?) feels. Does that make me creepy?

I don't find it hilarious, only rather sad. It's a shame that they can't express themselves well enough to snag the girl.

I like how at the beginning, you're wondering if this person passed school and then, you get to the bottom and the line "I can't speak in front of her well" just sums up the whole thing. Deep. I love it. I absolutely love this poem.

Awh that's really sweet. He sounds non English - why would he write his diary in a language other than his first language?

This is my new favorite find. I wish I'd thought of using bad grammar back when they made us write poems in elementary school! Before I learned better I always used to write "But." with the period after it, the full stop adds a little something, I think.

As I am choosing to believe this is for reals, this is now my favorite find ever, right after or maybe tied with "You is been parkeen..."

This could seriously be published by a very hip modern author and sell a million copies in two minutes. In quite incredsible.

No one in Nowhere
This poem is really sad. It's actually pretty fascinating with the broken English, because some of the words make the meaning somewhat ambiguous. It reminds me a bit of Italio Calvino (definitely a very very VERY amateur version, of course). The last line really makes it tragic, because he knows he can't speak well, and it obviously embarrasses him. Ironically, I think that last line might be the most grammatically correct of the entire poem.

On another point, it seems kind of cruel to pull something from someone's diary and post it (or at least admit it). But then I wonder why this guy is writing in his diary in broken English instead of his native tongue (of course he may be trying to get better, obviously, and practice makes perfect). Oh well, it's sad.

he'd been in love almost a year at this point! i hope she saw through the language barrier to what a great guy he probably is.

Sometimes, when I read things like this, I think that butchered versions of English are FAR better than the "correct" version can ever be.

This is quite possibly the most romantic thing i have ever set eyes on. oh how I wish a sweet, broken english-speaking boy would write me a love note. I think the best "love note" I have received went something like: 'I miss you a ton and we should really get together.' Turns out gretting together meant eating nachos with his guy friends. Whoooo Weeeee. He was a winner. ^^

Ahhh...did this seriously not remind anyone else of Borat? I thought it could be a really funny joke between two people who liked the movie. Really it's just his impersonation of how non-english speakers speak that is similar.

I like the idea that it's serious though. My idea as to why he would write in his diary in a non-native language? To get better at it, duh, so he would have the courage to ask the girl out!! :)

I don't think English is this person's second language. That's just my opinion. I like the way he leaves out the prepositions in some places, and he definitely knows the difference between "I wanna" and "I want to." This person knows what he's doing. I hope the lady got it. Because if she missed out on him, it's her great loss.

It reminded me of Everything is Illuminated, too! I love that book.

To the person who said he had been in love for almost a year, I think you're looking at the date the wrong way. He probably dated it the way most of the rest of the world does, day/month/year, rather than the American month/day/year, which would make it January 8th, which, like he said, is four months after September!
