With All My Heart
FOUND by Francis Mynatt Monroe in North Hills, California
I found this Polaroid in a slipcased, leather-bound copy of the Complete Works of Shakespeare, marking Romeo and Juliet. On the back is written, "My Heart is Laid Open for You, Darlin', Happy Valentine's Day, 1966 (Age 16)."
Night in gale
Why is this so familiar?

Happy Thanksgiving, friends!

Um. Ew. That's only funny in the literal sense.

Happy Thanksgiving, fellow Americans. The rest of y'all can go about your day per usual.

Alex? Alex Portnoy? Have you been at the dinner again?

wishin' in hopin'
Weird. Given that it's a 16 yr old, nowadays you'd just think it was a Valentine's gift between goths or emos... but was that a common teenage attitude in 1966?

Happy Thanksgiving people in US! Nice to see you're all having a nice day - not many comments on here today.

And he died of an enlarged heart.

Is that Worcestershire sauce on the side?

Doesn't it seem strange that an enlarged heart is a bad thing? And why is Worcestershire pronounced "wooster?"

I LOVE this photo, btw.

@wishin' in hopin'.. There was plenty of angst in the 1960s. There was the Vietnam war, for one thing. But there was also Free Love, no AIDS, and very weak marijuana. All of those things caused plenty of confusion between joy and heartbreak.

Not to mention that teenagers did fall in love and get their hearts broken, just like now.

At age 16, this person had quite the sense of humor. 1966 was a bit before Monty Python's era, so maybe the influence was...Harold and Maude?

I can't believe no one has said it. I will: Creeeepy.

Not to mention grotesque. The bow just puts me away.

Many and varied and *serious* issues, here.

@Fooch: Harold and Maude came out in 1971, around the time of Monty Python and both after this photo was taken.

@Clover: I love this photo, too. Thanks for your sensitive comments about teenage angst. I think sometimes people forget what it was like to be that age.

Thank you, Francis Mynatt Monroe in North Hills, California for submitting this Find. I hope you're having a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Googling the Finder results in ... this Find.

Everyone can give Thanks today if you want to.. even those of you in Canadia and Zimbabwe.

I'm thankful that Jason and Davy thought up a way to share their love of Finding stuff with the world. I'm thankful that Found number SIX is almost here!! I'm thankful that I remembered to get beer yesterday, since retrotown closes up tight as a drum on Thanksgiving...

If you look at the picture you can see aluminum foil and bread on the back. Maybe this heart was cooked (or boiled) and it was intended for a delicious heart-sandwich

bon apetit....

Yes it is kind of emo but has anyone noticed that this boy is both referencing Edgar Allen Poe and giving his love a collection of Shakespeare all while being 16?
