We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
Awesome.
Wow.. I have just been spending several hours judging photos online for the Capture Lane County coffee table book project. For a sec I thought I was still there. This photo is beautiful.
Wow! What is that thing at the end of the (fishing line?)? It looks like a sickle.
I have limited fishing experience, so someone needs to 'splain this one to me.
the thing is a fish.
Gifts from a homeless man who has nothing. It reminds me of when I volunteered at the local "home" for the mentally ill of all ages and "normal" elderly who simply had no family to care about them, and no money to meet expenses. I suppose in the 19th century it would have been called "the poorhouse." There was an old man there who was always sweeping the wards, who never spoke. He did however often give me little pieces of paper with thoughts written on them. Some of them were simply phrases from radio or TV commercials...others were quite profound reflections on life, in few words. He had beautiful handwriting.
I wish I had saved them.
Very small fishing pole. Pocket fisherman?
travis, what do you mean by, "doing various things in his boat?"
This is the greatest story behind a find that I have ever read.
The pink light is beautiful.
It reminds me of Depeche Mode.
And when I squinted
the world seemed rose tinted
and angels appeared to descend
To my surprise
with half-closed eyes
things looked even better
than when they were opened
lawndude, just what are you suggesting?
A fish? That thing is a fish?
Wish the magnifier worked for this picture
Don't believe them, Fooch. That's no fish.
It's a banana with fins.
Clearly. A banana with fins.
"God does not subtract from a man's allotted time those hours spent fishing."
I love this Find.
Really great photo! It was of the homeless man to share his dumpster diving treasures.
(Fooch, a fish, for sure).
I hate when I go out fishing and all I catch is a banana. Or maybe he's trying to catch lake monkeys, and the banana is bait.
The Found van must have passed through Philly on at least one of its tours...Travis, that wasn't a homeless man doling out the dumpster goodies.
Whatever.
I can't see the f**king fins so it looks like a f**king sickle or something curved.
Wonder what else was on that roll of film
agh! if this had been posted on flickr or something I would've favourited it ASAP.
it's a small boat! what other various things was he doing?
the simple joys of fishing...i wish i knew them.
That's the most kickass find and back story ever. Favorite! Now I'm going to Google Travis.
This could soooooooooo be my dad- he dresses exactly like that when he goes fishing. A beautiful find with a beautiful story behind it.
@Flargy;
yeah, that works too. can't tell you how many times I've been caught that way.
Man I love the background.
I think I'd like to fish sometime.
I love this photo more every time I look at it. The soft colours (yes, I know the pink haze means it's over/underexposed, but I like to think it's the light of the dawn), the inadvertent composition. It would take hours to set up a shot like this intentionally, but the photographer got it served on a plate. The curve of the fishing line and pole repeated in reverse by the curve of the fish. The curve of the prow of the boat offset by the seat line and the block shape of the cooler. The fact that the fisherman's face is obscured adds intensity to his focus on his prize, the importance of the event itself.
I loved fishing. We never caught anything much, but that wasn't the point. The point was spending hours just "being."
"The thing is a fish..." Thats priceless. Seriously though, I was fishing all day! So this find completes my adventures completely. Thank you Found.
I like this photo. Something about that cooler though... I don't like the cooler. Or the little tackle box, for that matter. The rest of it I like, even the pink that's probably not photographically correct.
Overgrown Dill in the other windowbox just told me the pink means the film was left in the camera too long before being developed.
BEST FIND STORY EVER!! LOVE THE IMAGE!
I love this shot, and the way it was discovered!
An excellent Find to return to, after a small Montana vacation that pretty much ended yesterday AM when we woke to four inches of snow. (the previous day had been nothing but rain. He looks as cold and wet as the hardcore fishermen in our group. Me? I stayed inside with beer and Scrabble.)
Some photos I recently had developed have green and pink stripes that make them appear as though the pics were taken through some (hideously gaudy) curtain.
Oh-left out one point about those odd pics: the film had been sitting in storage in a non-climate-controlled facility in California for some time, so I imagine they heated up and cooled down many times.)
I actually appreciate the tiny tackle box and the giant cooler. Is the cooler full of beer? or is it there to hold the Mighty Fisherman's bountiful fish harvest?
who is taking the picture?
Hey, you should post this picture on the blog http://Ifoundyourcamera.blogspot.com -- people post pictures from cameras/SD cards they've found, and sometimes they are able to reunite people with their "orphan photos"
