We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
Hullooh, Mah nem ees a Borat...
I've got a stuck in my enigmatizer.
Kind of an ugly twist on the infinitely uglier "Arbeit macht Frei".
we've all heard that "freedom isn't free." it's difficult to define something by what it isn't.
if it isn't free, then what is it? work, of course. makes sense to me. bravo.
Not knowing what the title meant, and wondering what Librarian's comment (infinitely uglier) meant, of course I had to google.. for those similarly uninformed, (from the second
"hit")
<B>"Arbeit Macht Frei"</b> (Work Brings Freedom) was the sign over the gates of Auschwitz. It was placed there by Major Rudolf Hoss, commandant of the camp.
====
Compelling Title and Finder's Blurb, Brody.
I have a crush on Brody now.
I luv the name Brody, but I've got nothing regarding this find. Most likely Brody is write in his assumption...the only other thing I could come up with is....nope still got nothing.
Free is work, huh? Whatever you say, Yoda.
If free equals work, then what is slavery?
Freedom is responsibility for self. And that's not always as great as it sounds.
Brody, glad this spoke to you and you do have a nice name.
Confining is sloth.
Expensive is idle.
or here's one: pro-bono is labor
@I'd Google... Librarians are like that: we can always look it up for you, but know you'll feel so much better if you look it up yourself.
There ain't no free lunch...indeed a lot of things that purport to be "free" turn out to be a lot of work. And money. And hassle. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Or as my cousin would say, "If it walks like a duck, looks like a duck and quacks like a duck--it's probably a pirated copy of a duck."
"Free is work" - ja?
und auch
"Slavery is ease"
Nicht wahr?
Soft is toast.
Bitter is tea.
Longing is mountain.
Ash is mouth.
Wandering is necessary.
Filthy is mirror.
Unbuttoned is collar.
Backwards is lung.
Broken is floorboard.
Final is horror.
Final is horror.
Final is horror.
How green is my valley.
Continuing a theme...
Busy is leisure?
This made me think of Capt. Peacock forever inquiring, "Are you free, Mr. Humphries?"
@Mary in VA: That was beautiful! It reminds me of the Tao Te Ching.
hillary in new haven, your comment reminded me of one of the songs in Team America.
Sounds Big Brothery... if Big Brother spoke English as a second language. Zwei und zwei ist funf!
Nein, Emily. Zwei und zwei ist vier. Zwei und DREI ist funf! Ich habe nicht umlaut. 8-(
Where's Mona?
Night in gale, my dear, ist from das buch 1984 :)
und I am too lazy to go looking for umlauts in symbol thingies.
If there was an umlaut over the 'O' in 'work' on the original found note - that would be the coolest thing ever.
@Emily: duh on me. Must be old math. 8-)
@Alan: That's not a word. Or is that from 1984, too?
@night in gale:
"I'm freeee!" says Mr. Humphries.
Gotta love those Brit-coms.
This secret gave me a mixed feeling because the first thing I thought of, was 'Arbeit macht Frei'. Today, May 5th, is Liberation day in Holland (WW2) and yesterday was the day that we remember the lives that have been taken by war and peace missions since WW2.
*Bows* his head in memory of all those souls lost to war and violence.
Free is work. Free is hard to get. Free is hard to keep. Free can be lost. Free is not free.
And I've been wondering where Mona Lisa is lately.
Where I work, the computer guys have their own department, IS, internal services. As soon as I saw this I thought of them offering free computer work (but I doubt they'd do it for free...)
I haven't seen Mona in a while, is she still around?
Wow, I barely read any of the above post before I posted then I went back and saw Clover's post. We must have had some "across the pond" telepathy. Bloody weird huh.
Whaha sorry I just read back and noticed I said Secret. I just read the postsecrets before posting that so it was a mix up. I meant note :P
@night in gale
No it's not a word - but you have to admit it would look terrifically cool.
Not that it's a big deal, but once again I'm overlooked. Happens all the time, I write an observation, Clover or Night or Flargy writes the same observation, and then someone comes along and says " Clover! I have noticed the same thing! ". That's what happens if you don't use the same username all the time I guess.
So, where IS Mona?
Tang
@Alan: oh yes! It would be very cool! I love umlauts. Here's an sideways umlaut smiley face for you. :-)
Tangint,
I try very hard not to duplicate other people's observations. (Not that I haven't accidentally.) I always try to read through the comments before making my own. But I know what you mean and it's frustrating. I think you answered your own question correctly about your username.
I don't know where Mona is....
Peace,
Nightingale
Night in gale, that was very diplomatic and sweet. I feel better. I was miffed at Shelly.
Tang, Shelly in UK is really Pepper in TX. She admitted that some time ago. Don't let her get under your skin.
Oooh.. I missed that one! Damn that pepper.
@Night in gale- Your posts really make me smile!
And about the FIND- If you have to work for it, it's not free.
I'm sorry if you felt overlooked Tang, I mean Hello? I didn't read all the post and again (I don't know why I was deleted) I'm not Pepper. Apparently he/she has a predilection for claiming to be others.
@ Night in Gale re: 2+3=5
"Ich habe keine umlaute" :3
Ihre Grammatik braucht einiges an Arbeit!!!
Vielen Dank, Laura. Sie sind sehr klug mit Affen essend Kirschen in Ihrer Küche. :3
Mona posted a very sad comment on Secret Vespers. I am worried about her. Don't fall, Mona. Don't fall. We need you.
