I was doing research in rural Japan about a year and a half ago, and came across a bunch of photos of dubious date and origin. I have no idea who these people are or how their pictures ended up where they did. There were tons, here's one. Enjoy!

We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
i hate it when finds go un-commented. especially ones as amazing and beautiful as this. i have saved this picture as my desktop. i would love to actually be walking along and find something like this, but i guess finding it here will have to be enough.
This is a wonderful picture. The child is clearly not Asian, I wonder how it ended up in Japan? I wish some of these finds could talk, the stories thay could tell!
That looks IDENTICAL to old photos i have of my mom when she was little...holy crap...
This photo is either over 100 years old or was done recently by an absolute professional. Striking, either way.
It's ironic that the girl is sitting in a rocking chair, but the rocking chair is braced with rocks to keep it from rocking.
Smack dab in the middle of nowhere. Interesting.

This looks like a Depression-era photograph from Appalachia or the Ozarks. Fascinating that it was discovered in Japan.

I think this photo is kind of scary. I think it's bizarre that the kid is in the middle of a field, alone, on a chair.

Is there any location that could be any more random to put a little girl on rocking chair? Not only is it in the middle of nowhere (or slightly far from the next house over at least!), and not only is the chair being stopped from rocking by rocks(!), but the chair is on an INCLINE! A ROCKING chair stopped from rocking by ROCKS on an INCLINE! Effin brilliant!
Anyone else notice that the little girl is sitting in a rocker?????? The dang thing is balanced on rocks. Also, is that some type of sash she is wearing on her right side, as if she is being posed after winning some pageant? It is a great find.
This Find has been here for over 2 years and I've never seen it until my friend, Clover, directed me to it just now.
This is a very cool photo, but the girl isn't alone, the photographer is there. Her home and other family memebers are probably right behind the photographer. That's my guess, anyway.
Is it possible this is a boy? I wish someone could put a date on this.
Okay, just a couple quick questions:
One: just what KIND Of research was Charlie conducting?

No idea how they ended up where they did.. WHERE??? Where did they end up??
Did he Find them in the back room of a diner, or Another Roadside Attraction? Did he find them in a barn? (do they.. HAVE barns in "rural Japan"? do they have diners or Roadside Attractions?)
Did he find them out in the middle of the field? Loose and Blowing in the Wind? In a box? He says there were tons.. Were they in crates? With shipping marks from Seattle to Okinawa?
The picture is cute, the Finder's blurb is cryptic.
Now that's a chubba bubba.
