Family Planning
FOUND by Dan Boysen in Chicago, Illinois
While serving on jury duty, I found this note written on a page halfway through the court-issued notebooks they give you. Is this person speaking from personal experience or passing on advice gained from a case they sat on? Probably a more interesting case than the one I sat on.
Night in gale
Don't worry. Your doctor's not about to let that happen.

Geek NOT in my mom's basement
Joseph's mother-in-law warned him about this and never let him forget what Mary went through.

(Pastor Z, who was Joseph's mother-in-law, anyway?)

@Geek: Catholic tradition says that Mary's mother was St. Anne, but there is no historic documentation to back this up, since in the geneologies (sp?) extant in the NT they only mention fathers. Which I always find odd, since whether or not you are considered Jewish goes by your mother, not your father. If your mother is Jewish then so are you. (See the trouble Timothy had when he entered the Temple in Acts because his father was a Greek.)

My mother had 2 Christmas babies, one year apart, the 24th and 25th. Both times she had planned to prepare a goose, but said no more...cooking her goose twice was enough!

Sound advice. The kid always gets shafted if it's a gifty holiday.

personal experience- i was born on thanksgiving. so each year it became tradition that my brother and i got turkey instead of cake. a nice combo of the two.

not! not nice at all.

i was so jealous of my other brother who was born in august (and thus got cake), that one year i stole his cake.

needless to say, i hate turkey.

No offence Maddy, But man, what a crappy tradition!!!

That reminds me, when I was about 3 my older sister cut off all my curls, so on her birthday I licked all the chocolate icing off her cake before everyone woke up! Take that sister!!

I was born on Christmas, and somehow I was always exempted from the curse of just receiving one present.

I always used to tell people that two people were born on Christmas; CHRIST, and MAS, which are my initials.

Using that as proof of sovereignty didn't really work out, though.

My mom was born Dec 22, close enough to be shafted pretty much every year. Her brother - born July 1st, Canada Day. Fireworks and parties a plenty every year. How's that for a kick in the teeth?

I guess this is bringing out the Holiday Babies!

I was born on St. Patrick's Day. I think it's pretty much the most perfect holiday to have a birthday. No gift competition, and if you live in a town with a lot of Irish people, like San Francisco, everyone's in a party mood. You can just drop into any pub and be at a party.

People always remember my birthday, too, because it's on St. Patrick's Day! I still get cards from people I knew long ago (and I always feel guilty for not remembering theirs!)

Steph, that's hilarious!

Maddy, in my family's experience, August is not a good month for birthdays. You haven't seen your school friends for two months, and everyone is out of town on vacation, so it's hard to have a birthday party.

Also, August is right before the Sept. 1 cut-off date for school, and you're the youngest in your class. Even if you're smart, that's a disadvantage for children. My daughter and my husband were born on August 24 & 26 and both were almost a year younger than many of their classmates.

On the other hand, you can plan outdoor parties so that's the good side. Even if not all your friends can come.

I hope you get cake today!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

LASH too shares Birthday...

My elder sister and I are 5 years apart, but born on same day...Feb 5th!

My son was born December 8th...he's close to Christmas, as well.

But we celebrate them both at different times...only fair.

Your BIRTH-DATE is as SPECIAL as you..yourself...that warrants a SPECIAL occasion in itself...not mixed with Thanksgiving, or Easter, etc...

New Years would be a GRAND partayyyy! Though!

This is good advice - consolidate and have 2 or 3 babies instead. But beware the other evil tenants are awaiting the birth to wisk it away and raise it as the the reborn lord of darkness....

funny that today's find is about birthdays seeing as it is my birthday! :)
This time of year is pretty bad to be born too... christmas shopping season. Sooo any birthday money recieved usually ends up going towards other people's gifts. blah.
But I'm sure the whole turkey thing is wayyy worse!!

@night in gale. LOL. Reminds me of the obstetrician supervising the birth of my second kid. Mom wanted to know how dilated she was. The OB replied, "Don't worry. We'll have it out by lunch."

My dad was born December 31st. He doesn't seem to care one way or another.

Oh, and my brother was born on flag day! ha ha.

Personally, I would not want to be on the receiving end (or lack of receiving, i guess) of a holiday/birthday combo. I like the amount of gifts I get, thank you. (I suppose today is not the day to be so selfish! whoops!)

Elbow Deep in A Turkey's Butt
@Night & Gorgon:

When I was nearing the due date of my first daughter, I asked my doctor how many days he thought I had left.

He said "It will be Monday. Tuesday morning at the latest."

I said "Really? Are you sure?"

He said "Yes."

I was only 18 and completely in awe of his ability to predict down to the day, so I asked "How do you know?"

He said "I leave Wednesday on a 2 week vacation."

i was born on the 12th because the doctor gave my mom the choice of the 12th or waiting until the 16th. he wouldn't deliver me on friday the 13th and had the weekend off. for some reason she didn't want to stay pregnant for an extra 4 days.

Mom Interrupted in a turkey-induced stupor
My mom went into labor with me during Thanksgiving dinner. Finished her meal, had pie and coffee- and THEN left for the hospital.

I was born the next day- November 26th. I've always enjoyed having my birthday near Thanksgiving. But I wouldn't like having it close to Christmas. Nope.

my child just had his birthday 2 days ago and mine is the day after new years and my dad and grandma are dec 27,28 so we always have a long week of celebrating during the holidays. sometimes i do get the cheesy bath/spa gift sets though. but for the most part it is party time in my family during the holidays.

My birthday is Dec. 20th. If I get another set of cheesy bath/spa gift sets, I'll scream!

One year, when I was about 10, my best friend, who was born Dec. 25th, and I decided we would switch our birthdays to June so we wouldn't get cheated by the "one present for both b-day and Christmas" deal. But when December rolled around we were mad when we didn't get to have our regular birthday. That was the only time we did that.

If you look hard enough (ask a reference librarian to help you), then every day is a holiday SOMEplace. Which would put your birthday on a holiday, no matter when it is.

Now, granted some of the holidays are only observed in Andorra or Burkina Faso or Tonga or some such place ... but, still....

I had kids the day before Thanksgiving. I do not recommend giving birth on a holiday - you are stuck in the hospital with no turkey dinner.

My birthday is 11/27. My mother went into labor as she checked the turkey. She dropped it on the floor and always wondered if anyone ate it. She never cooked another turkey - I had to cook one my 25th as some sort of weird anniversary thing for her. I love turkey and all the trimmings but it sucks to have a birthday around thanksgiving. Requirement to be with family (as much as I love them) usually interferes with revelry. My Mom always insisted that Thanksgiving came first then my birthday (even when they were on the same day or my birthday was the day before) - by the time it was my "birthday" everyone was pooped out on the couch watching football. No cake, little to no gifts - I got all the good stuff on my birthday and nothing for christmas or vice versa. Oh, and my favorite thing was getting stuck doing the dishes. Its made me a bit selfish about my birthday and who I spend it with. So, I agree. No more holiday babies.
