I think she meant to put isn't broken, I don't think she intended to be sinister. Also, I think Jacob was looking over her shoulder while she was writing the note and instead of telling him to butt out, she just wrote it.

Middle schoolers love having broken bones, or at least ones you can put a cast on, so all the hot guys can sign it. If you check their pencil cases, you will find they all have silver Sharpies, bought expressly for this possibility.

Me and my friends wished ailments like this on each other because it would me no P.E.
But that's because we were the type of kids that were always picked last when they picked teams.

i almost peed my pants laughing at this.
Most likely she wrote it to pull Jacob's leg if he was staring at what she was writing. Or maybe she's thinking that since Ashley has had some wrist accident already, it might as well have been a serious accident so she'll get insurance money for it. :P
This reminds me of when I purposely broke my fingers in middle school to get out of gym.
