We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
Back when? How long ago was this? Looks like a Nehru jacket & hippie beads. I'm guessing 1967 or 68. I don't know about that spider-web doily allergy mask though. Very strange.
Oh no! I was thinking, this almost looks like a strange doctor in surgical attire. I wasn't gonna comment on that, but then I read the spam question. Do you see a doctor or dentist for a toothache?
It's a superhero--Captain Swim Hat, the Black Ace. His special power is that he can stay under water indefinitely because of the groovy little mask. And that's also why he has the swim goggles.
I think it's Spiderman's wife and he got sick of her lip, so he webbed her mouth shut.
i must say, this is a very cool find, not only because it's close to home physically, but it takes us to a different time. wonder which black ace they reference.
i just wanted to say that i went to cape breton as part of my aunt's graduation gift to me, and it's definitely one of my most favourite places in the world. :-) i wouldn't object to living there.
OK, I can't help saying it, because it's true...this one IS kinda creepy! Looks like they drew the teacher in a gag and hood.
ANOTHER weird math question??? Where's that frosting everyone keeps talking about! Like I can do 28 x 15 in my head! Ease up, for fertilizer's sake!
I often drew pictures of my teachers wearing muzzles during class. Actually I didn't, but I think it's a pretty awesome idea. Seems like it would be very therapeutic.
I remember this, I remember every detail of this: how it was almost time for lunch in study hall and how he started it just by drawing the outline of her glasses. He finished it just as the bell rang and, almsot as an afterthought, scrawled the title and date across the top. Those were the days.
Great. Now we have to have been to med school to get past the spam filter.
Uh, I meant "..almost as an afterthought"
i betcha that 'ace' is reference to 'flying ace' like snoopy-on-the-doghouse it kindasorta could be a WWI goggles/flightmask set except one that is made by grandma... WAIT! grandma is the black ace! perfect! no one ever suspects mild mannered old ladies with knitting skills...
rava in turmoil - LOL.
I like this, it's the sort of random mish-mash people draw when they're bored out of their mind - I know I do anyway.
dammit, I really should have listened in maths.."what is 34 minus 12?"...ummm *gets calculator*...aha!
Clover, I don't think those are love beads, exactly. Looks more like a pearl necklace to go with the S&M getup the "ace" is wearing. Since he drew it Feb. 16, maybe he was remembering a pleasant Valentine's Day?
This is creepy.
I immediately thought of Hannibal Lechter.
This Victorian era swim team exterminator is much more creative than the ladies with beehives and high heels that I doodle.
Found is so quiet today! Where is everyone? Oh, wait--it's Saturday. That explains it.
Hannibal Lecter is exactly what came to my mind too, hahah
My step-mother's family owns a house built in the early 18th century. Inside is a collection of very old books, including school books. The best of the bunch, in my opinion, is one which contains colonial-era doodles. The doodled people wear tri-cornered hats and waistcoats and such. Very neat.
But just what is that "N" word on the side all scratched out ????
i definitely agree with that being Spiderman's wife
@No Persimmons: I too am intrigued by the long-tailed "P" on the left side of the drawing. Looking at whatever was scribbled out, I see an "N" and then something that looks like a cursive f or a a very curly cursive p...and it may end with R.
Such bold, black strokes--charcoal? Marker? The shoulders appear to have been pencilled in and then gone over with whatever the black lines were made by.
more maths...sigh...do they really want to make people stop posting? Is that what this is about??
Ah! I'm from Cape Breton!! That's so weird .. our little (big) island with such strange recognition .. :P
I agree this is creepy and disturbing.Highschoolers are a disturbed bunch!
Very creepy!
I think TB mask.
Neener neener... I got an art spam question :P
Looks like his grandma doily over his mouth, but my first thought was Hannible Lechtor.
Why does this drawing make me think of "A Clockwork Orange?" I have never even seen that movie.
Also, there really WAS clover in my salad at the luncheon yesterday. I could not eat it. That would have made me feel like a cannibal, somehow.
oh.. Hannibal the cannibal.. creepy..
Wrye, I had the same thought! Grandma tatting lace by day, Ninja Granny Black Ace by night.
Clover?? in your salad?? did they not know who you were? I picture you daintily picking out each piece of clover and setting it on the side of your plate.
This is creepy/cool. I just wish we could read the word on the side, there. Looks like some kind of felt tip was used to do the drawing.
I think it is a threat. The Black Ace is planning do this (definitely torture) to the person in the drawing on Feb. 16, and drew this to give to the victim to let them know they are doomed...
This pic is really weird. You will probably see it tomorrow on PostSecret with little cut out words that say something like.....
"I like to wear a dog muzzle during sex", or "I like to eat that fake spider web crap you buy at Halloween".
Moony: If you live in North Carolina, please refrain from putting the letter "u" in the word "favorite."
Lady Brandy: That is hilarious, I'm totally cracking up.
Moony, our neighbours to the south of us get a little hot under the collar, and their faces turn a lovely colour of red, when we forget to change our spelling to american, when we're in america. So, please, if you're endeavouring to become one of their favourites, please, acknowledge their lack of tolerance for the proper canadian spelling.
Yeeeah, Nova Scotia! I'm a born and raised Haligonian! Still here too.
As for the find, what gets me are those glasses.
forgot to add one thing. they title it "the blackface", which seems like this was drawn by a miners child.
What is that word? The blackface febib? What is that?
August 31, 2003. That's the find I ended up on when I just came to check the find of the day. There were only like 8 comments. Haa! Obey.
Oh, it's blackace and not blackface.
I was directed to "Holy Shit! I'm a pew! $199.99" July 23, 2006. (find number 1111)
I think it's kind of fun to be directed to some random Find. But I had to search "Lisandra" to get to today, since it's the most recent Find I could actually remember.
Rava's Mrs. Spidey comment was funny, but this Find is yeah, kinda creepy. But it reminds me of Velma from Scooby Doo.
Hilary in New Haven, your step mother's family's home sounds absolutely fascinating!! I'd love to see some of those doodles.
Missed you, Chrome. See you at the forum. 8-)
*pew* *pew*
The beads and shoulders were added in after, in a slightly different colour ink. I enlarged the photo to try and read what it says up the side. No luck. I think the black ace is either a pilot or racing car driver...
The second scratched out part is the surname "Neofes"...
When croakies go bad.
I think a midget parachuted into her mouth.
Colonel Hubert Julian, "the Negro Lindbergh," aka "the Black Eagle of Harlem." Julian fought for Haile Selaisse, was a good pilot and a great showman, had links to the Harlem underworld, and generally was a most interesting (and mysteriously unknown, today) person.
Looks like a female, aviator impersonator....Ms. Katherine Hepburn, maybe????
We all know how odd Mr. Hughes was...
This picture is amazing!
And really rather creepy as well.
I think it was supposed to be a surgeon in a mask...
Boo, hiss, math question. :(
Maybe it's supposed to be a Tuskeegee Airman.
