Don't Be Mean to Me
FOUND by Michelle Sackson in Los Angeles, California
I found this in a drawer in a restaurant in Los Feliz. It's obviously written by a child, and it breaks my heart that a child would ever have to feel this guarded that he would write something so profound and emotional. I hope that this kid is having a better go of life by now.

I'm with blue in the bayou, and it takes courage to say so.

..thunder and lightening, very very frightening..

Very very frightening me

I wish I could give the writer of this note a big hug and protect them from the evil piccachu-ish stationary on which it was written. Or at least give them a pony.

This is a "note to self" - I sometimes think people are much harder on themselves then they ever are on other people.

On the other hand, the fact that a child wrote something so profound tells me they are old before their time, and that makes me weepy.

what a traumatic dinner this kid must have had! i bet the parents didn't even notice his cry for help at the table, since it was obviously left behind.

I don't think this is a child's handwriting at all. I've seen plenty of adults who write similar to this. It also doesn't seem like a sentiment a child would have. It is nice though, I wish we all could remember this basic rule.

I love this. Everyone should see this one. I have been thinking about that Far Side comic where God is creating earth and He's got a jar full of jerks that He is sprinkling on to the earth and the caption reads "Just to make it interesting..."
Just have an one more ounce of common courtesy and just think of other people for just one more second and this world just might be a little better.

Message in a bottle
I love this. Definately one of my favorites. It seems so simple and obvious when it's written out like that, but too few of us really think that way. I really want to know what happened before this was written. Poor kid.

This breaks my heart. To know that ANY child felt this way is just horrible.
Kids ARE so cruel and mean.

I hope the writer is doing well now, and is still speaking up for themselves in writing or voice! To see his/her feelings in writing is inspirational.

it makes me terribly sad that kids today feel such pain and sadness. Kids are pressured to be more mature and given more responsibilities at a younger age. There Now they deal with so many pressures and problems that many of us couldn't even imagine dealing with. I hope this kid is having a better time now.

If my understanding of the "Found Magazine T-Shirt of the Day" shop is correct, you can upload just about any image from here (save it to your computer, then upload it to the shop?) to there, and have it put on a t-shirt.

Check it out.

Simple lessons in humility.
Remember a while back, when someone was doing the happy dance for being the first to comment, and while he was composing his happy dance "Hooray for me, because I'm First!!" comment, someone else posted first? That cracked me up! It still makes me giggle when I think about it.

I wish that had happened today.

Really, is it that big of a deal to be the first? It seems like such a silly thing to gloat about, especially since the "First" commenters usually don't even bother to comment about the Find. Or if they do, it's a comment devoid of any character, substance or entertainment value.

Kids can also be extremely dramatic.
I learned that when I took my daughter's hand and she screamed that I had broken her arm...we were at the emergency room and she was not the patient...her sister was. She didn't want to leave without getting to be the patient too.So she thought she would say I broke her arm...eh...pretty good reasoning for a three year old.

If this was a kid, at least he/she had the insight to realize that it was not ok for others to be mean. It would be way sadder for this kid to internalize the meanness and become a self hater.

I teach ESL. I wouldn't doubt if its someone who is unfamiliar with the language trying to write something. It makes it almost more sad to imagine an adult writing this, unable to communicate with their peers!

I know this feeling. I know how this feels. As soon as I saw this I flashbacked to when I was this age. This is what happens to kids who are bullied and picked on by other kids their age. This isn't because of parents, this is because of classmates. They do not feel human, because their peers do not treat them as human. I remember sitting in class thinking almost these exact words.
I'm 21 now, and completely happy with myself and surrounded in friends who love me, but this is so poignant it nearly brings me to tears.

This wasn't necessarily written by a child. I'm almost 25 and my handwriting still looks like that if I'm drunk and/or in a hurry.
