Paris, September 1940
FOUND by Andrea Connor in New York City, New York
I was seated at a table in a restaurant and I felt something under my shoe; as I reached down, I could already see the faces of the women in this photo. Upon closer inspection I was most surprised by the gestures of the women. It seems that they are mocking Hitler. The lower left corner offers some information. It reads, "Sept. 1940 Paris Prints."

It goes to show you that even 55 years ago, Frenchwomen had an innate loveliness (even when they were mocking the personification of evil.)

After finding all the boys were away at war, the girls had to settle for giving themselves 'Dirty Sanchez's'

Is the one seated on the right flipping the bird? That rocks. Librarian, I didn't think the first comment sounded like you so yeah, you should register.

Simple in the head
The three Nazis in the back think the two French girls in the front stink.

Later they all had those nice locks rudely shorn off for behaving as "collaborateurs."

Beeswax, I had the same thought about the front right girl giving the ol' one-fingered salute, but I think she has a cigarette between her fingers and is gesturing at the back row ladies with her thumb.

I can just imagine these girls running around trying to fulfill #s 1-10 on yesterday's list, can't you?

Remember back in the day when .. someone.. would say somthing impulsive* on the comment board (*dumb*), and have instant poster's regret-- without the benefit of a delete or edit function-- & so would always come back in later, "okay- that other comment by me?-- the stupid one?-- That wasn't me. I'm being impostered!" Yeah. Uh huh.

This is such an incredible find. The finder should feel so lucky to have come across something so indicative of a time and place by complete chance!

The swimsuit/bodysuit is especially attractive with the tan lines. Are these people nuts? These ads make me want to convince the whole world to boycott AA. I wish I kept my clothes from the 80"s. Apparently they'd be very trendy now.

Clover in the lawn with the other 3-leaf clovers.
Seated at a table in a restaurant and felt something under her shoe? And it's this fantastic photo from France during WWII? How is this possible? A find this good, under a restaurant table where the feet of customers go? Lucky lucky lucky!

Jonathan too in my office (sshhh!)

...at the risk of being offensive or inappropriate...

The girl seated left front has just peed herself. Hence the stain on the grass. And probably why she and her friend are sitting with their legs out.

Seriously great Find though!

But what is on the wall behind the car? 'ROOMS' wouldn't be very French.

Clover in the Lawn
Jonathan, I don't think it says 'ROOMS.' But I can't figure out what it does say. The photo doesn't really seem French, and I can't explain why, exactly. The girls look American or German or maybe even English. Maybe it's because they are sitting on the grass. Most places I've been in France have signs posted not to walk on the grass. The clothes don't look like 1940 either; they seem to be of a later style I think. But I guess we must believe the photo notes.

(Did I miss some nonsense that was later cleaned up? I don't see an earlier comment from Librarian referred to by Beeswax. It gives a sense of unease when that happens.)

I think "flipping the bird" wasn't a French gesture during WW2; they would have slapped a bent elbow (hard to explain but identifiable if you've ever seen it), not that young girls would do it.

Clover, we've just been attacked by tweenage trolls, is all.
