We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
I wish everyone received a whale with so much love.
Interesting that both of today's Finds are dated in the same place, the lower L corner. If those are the years they were submitted, my finds are in for a long wait....
I lurve when I get a bonus find upon clicking on the magnify hotpoint. What I hate is when the finder's comments refer to additional inclusions and I click and get dick. This find is cute despite my disappointment with found.com's oversights.
nder the sea, in an octopus's gard
this is lovely, idk why but it charms me x
Dis - thanks for mentioning the magnify spot. I have never clicked it because I did not feel the need to "magnify". Now I know magnify must really mean to flip it over or see more.
Silly me!
Good tracing, Amy. Makes me want to write a story. Let's see ... I've already written one called 'Typee' and one I called 'Omoo'. What could I call this one?? Something with a little less mystery in the title, perhaps. Something that lets people know exactly what they'll be getting. Hmmm, what would be a good title? I know! I'll call it "The Whale." Call me Dad, if you want. I think this one will be a hit.
This is just precious :}
ah i wish i kept some of my finds, one of my favourites being the 'Good luck with your new home' card i found in a burnt out house
Front and back or top and bottom? The ghost whale on the magnified side doesn't match the one on the non-magnified side. 'Supose we'll never know.
I think it's just great that Philly folks love to keep house so much that they are provided sweeping lawns to practice their craft out in the sunshine. What a beautiful, clean city it must be. *snicker*
Queer as a whale drawing by Amy!
Can't believe no one said this yet.
i don't get you, HPD...
And...how cool a name is chalkley calderwood???
What does a whale have to do with loving Dad? This shape is actually the same as the Fudgie the Whale cake from Carvel -- remember "Whale of a Dad?" Wikipedia says, "Although the cake depicts the shape of a whale and was originally decorated as such, it was adapted for holiday uses by rotating it 90 degrees counter-clockwise so that the whale's body, now upright, could represent a face. The whale's tail would then represent whatever a character traditionally had on its head: the Easter Bunny's ears, a leprechaun's hat, or Santa Claus's tassel." One cake pan, all holidays. Not bad.

I lore you.
Lore, Amy
@mona - read through yesterday's rainbow $5 find
@Derek - Look at the Magnify - sometimes there are found Easter Eggs there,

Whales are terrifying, but cute at the same time.
Hiplandsdrifter made me laugh out loud, right this minute.
And, at this moment, since I haven't had my coffee yet, I can only smile, smirk, and snort at the other comments.
Maybe later I will have something clever to write.
By Amj.
I like that name.
Amy found a whale drawing and some tracing paper. Proud of her new whale-tracing abilities, she traced two whales. Then she wondered what to do with the paper. She decided to make the whales into a card for her dad. She even wrote in cursive to make it all fancy.
lol @ HPD, now i get it. thank you.
Killer whale.
Hardy. Har. Har.
I thought it was a sperm whale.
On a totally unrelated tangent; I am enthralled by the American Apparel Flex Fleece model and will start my day with a glimpse of her on this site.
I love "Amos and Boris" by William Steig. I absolutely love the way Steig uses language! The book is recommended for ages 3-8, but I think it's really for everyone. Perhaps that's the book that inspired Amy's drawing for her dad. They probably read it together, like I did so often with my daughter.
I also love "Solomon and the Rusty Nail" and "CDC." His books are so weird. I just love them.
@ Nightingale: you have a one track mind.
;-)
Interestingly enough, although the story's a little old, my daughter just read a story about a whale in the local "Tidbits" newspaper yesterday (it was a Whale of a Day!)...

Once moved to a nearby nature preserve, the male specimen -- the largest whale ever recorded in Taiwan -- drew the attention of locals because of its large penis, measured at some five feet, the Taipei Times reported.
"More than 100 Tainan city residents, mostly men, have reportedly gone to see the corpse to 'experience' the size of its penis," the newspaper reported.
Did you know that the blue whale has a 10 foot penis?
déjà vu
"..the battalion of leaf blowers that have been active.."
makes me think of Stephen King's "Trucks" or some other creepy story where machines become sentient and take over the world.
