We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
I wish someone would like like me and ask me out on a date.
sweet
Blue stars used to be the colour of safety. Women who were at home when school kids were going and coming to school (in those days it was safe enough on the street to walk) would put a Blue Star in the window. Any child in trouble, afraid of bullies etc or even if you fell and skinned your knee, could look for the Blue Star and walk right in as if it were their own home. I had occasion to be grateful for the Blue Star more than once.
Are there still "your friendly Blue Star homes"?
So what does this black star mean?
I think from my latin classes it was
Likey
Like
Love
or some damn thing ...
Alas, "Blue Star Homes" were probably outlawed because pedophiles misused the mighty power of the blue star.
"Cuz baby, I really, like, like ya."
I love the confidence..."I'm going to take you out on a date." Oh, really? Are you sure?
What if she says no?
Mr "Foregone Conclusion" here, thinks all he has to do is snap his fingers and she'll jump like a frog. Good luck, dude.
from one star bellied sneetch to another
my heart goes pitter-patter
A black star is not a good thing. It is like a pirate getting a black spot.
Is like liking someone the same a being in like with someone? I think I've, like, been in like on several occasions. But like liking someone? That seems ambiguous.
I've never heard of a blue star being the sign of a safe place to go on your way home from school. However, mothers do put blue stars in their windows to signify that they have a son (or daughter, nowadays) who is off fighting in the war. Gold stars represent children who have died in the war.
How about a Brown Star?
@sick in tired, I'm wondering where that was? I like the idea of Blue Star homes. We had something like that, but they were called Neighborhood Block Homes (I think), anyway, the sign in the window was yellow, with a black silhouette of a house. I never had to go to one; back then almost every house had a mom at home during the day, and we knew all the neighbors anyway.
It was in central Iowa, I think it was a statewide thing. They even had "public service announcements" with a little folky-type song about "The friendly Blue Star, your friendly Blue Star Home." This was back in the 60s and 70s. I remember being followed by a strange (in both senses of the word, unknown and odd) man in about 1979, and even at age 18,the training kicked in and I looked for a blue star! Found one, and walked straight in. The lady was surprised but when I explained she agreed I'd done the right thing, and called my mom to come pick me up.
Isn't an upside down star the sign of the devil?
An inverted pentagram is not a sign of like like.
@sick in tired: that is a cute, sweet story. I wish things now were like they were before. Just can't trust anyone now a days.. I sell insurance and I hardly trust most people that walk in off the street wanting a quote, but don't even have a car!! Suspicious activity there!
