Happy? September 22, 2006 |
We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
That looks like so much fun!
WEEEEE! *reset* WEEEEE! *reset* WEEEEE!
No wonder the girl looks so happy with it.
Something about this photo brings to mind Stanley Milgram's electric shock experiment. Would this little girl administer the full voltage to a hapless victim?
@Nobody
LOL! It's the bestest Xmas toy ever! Until they invented the oval track.
This reminds me of the play "The Bad Seed." Sorry, little girl, but you creep me out!
She does rather look like she's about to murder the cameraman.
Maybe her train was a secret and she's just been found out.
ahhhh yeah.. she got a little bit a da crosseye.
It is pretty creepy. Twilight Zoneish lol.
And does anybody else find the ads for the "Mirrors" movie really freaky? Maybe it's just too early in the morning/late at night right now for that stuff lol.
Dunno about the train, but the kid can kick your butt, no problem! Those hair ribbons are positively bristling! Though of course, if I had to wear my hair in ribbons I might be ready to kill, too.
Is it just me, or is she a little too old for this toy? Seems to me I can see a little chest development there...maybe she's furious because Mummy keeps making her dress like an 8 year old when she's going on 13. That would certainly bring out the killah instinct in your little Princess.
Does anyone else think she is 30ish trapped in a body of a 10 year old? Creepy....
someone call an exorcist.
and a model train enthusiast, because that set up is all wrong.
Oatmealio when I first seen the pic I thought that, looks like a scene from something by David Lynch!
"Gee Dad, thanks for the train set."
Actually ... if you look at the dowels beneath the track you'll see that this is a physics demonstration. "Full power, Mr. Sulu!" but the engine won't go anywhere while the track shoots out and impales the next kid in line.
Looks to me that someone's piggy tails may be a tad too tight for her liking.
For some reason it reminds me of my uni daze when we had to agree to take part in psych experiments in order to pass Intro to Psychology. It was basic stuff, human lab rats for other students. But they had Piaget type tests for kids, too. This pic makes me think of a child in a university lab...very wary about what information they might really want, and whether or not to give them access to it.
The train is...odd...to say the least. Talk about a fast train to nowhere!
The cloth backdrop makes me think this was staged for something, but no non-creepy answers come to mind. I also get the feeling that it is staged (via ribbons and dress) to look older than it actually is.
Where is that train going to go?
"Go ahead, poke me with a stick, I'm ready..."
I don't know why, but I have the "Pinky and the Brain" soundtrack in my head when I see this.
Librarian's right. This is a physics experiment. Presumably at the world's creepiest science fair.
*shudders*
Is there no second find today?
Conrail was started April 1, 1976. Therefore this photo was made some time after that.
@ Shockwave: David Lynch! Yes..she could have been in Eraserhead!
"Take the last train to Creepsville and I'll meet you at the station!" (then kill you)
My take on this one is that the kid is just plain annoyed, not evil or a bad seed. If she's anything like me she's thinking, "Gee whiz Mom, do you HAVE to take a picture of me EVERY single time you think I look cute or smart?!"
Oh, Gomez look how our little Wednesday has grown! She's becoming such a young lady now...sigh...but she still has that murderous gleam in her eyes.
Ah, my darling Morticia, she does have your eyes! I am so proud, so proud.
http://www.foundmagazine.com/find/594
@Turbo - LOL!!
@Jan - Yes! My first thought was that it was Pugsly in little Wednesday body!!! I'm thinking Uncle Fest is out of camera range waiting for the engine to shoot off the track straight into his forehead to release his tension....
Go ahead, punk. Take my train.
@Feeling--No, there's another one, but it shows zero comments and there's already 2 there. Weird Found funkiness today.
This girl thinks infections are extremely cool.
This girl is definitely too old to have her hair like that (and with ribbons, no less!). She has to be at least 13 or 14. She was probably already angry at whoever made her dress that way, and then to top it off, they had to go and take her picture, capturing her mortification for all eternity.
If I did this to my 12-year-old, she'd look just like that!
@ Gloria
At this point, the girl would definitely administer the "XXX" rated shock!
It's Napoleon Dynamite's girlfriend Trisha!
This "girl" is definitely not a kid, not with a chest like that. Weird photo...
WTF MOM!! The whole "I think I can, I think I can" is BS. I told you I wanted a highway to hell.
I SO want someone to check into the HEY, That's ME! section for this one.
@ fooch
Awesome film, haven't got a clue what it's about, but still one of my all time favs
@sundana.
i don't think she has a bosom. i just think she's a bit stout with a ill-fitting blouse. together with overly tight pigtails that would make anyone look agitated.
those are pony tails. Pigtails are braids.
thank you, bugging me... thats been..well..bugging me all day too.
Simple Energy Transference Experiment #02
demonstrated by Gwizilda Quackenbush of Mrs. Nordburg's 5th grade science class at Roswell Elementary School. She wanted to be home this particular Saturday since Black Beauty was on the Disney Channel. Mommy made her go to the Science Fair and now Mommy's going to get a surprise tonight, in bed.
Haiku for this Find
Girl who has been posed
For a lame train set photo
Is clearly pissed off
No this ain't no train
This detonator is for
A nuclear bomb
Pinky and the Brain
One is a genious and the
Other is insane
Looks like a publicity shot.
I love it.
She looks like that girl in 'Skins'.
Sketch.
A little, anyways.
Little Missy was so excited to go to work at her first job. Then she realized she was doing Quality Control for Lionel trains. She left saying "This job blows like a train whistle"
Creepy? No.
Funny? Ironic? annoyed child? Yes.
If you save it and zoom in she doesn't look nearly as pissed off, just waiting intently for her cue to flip the switch.
Cool Find, Brian Botts. (I secretly hoped it was found by Robert Keim. I love that guy!)
Future American Apparel model.
Umm, so who says that chicks can't wear pony tails or braids at ANY age? What's the cutoff?
Um, I was always under the impression that a ponytail was a single one, while pigtails were two, usually worn on each side of the head. Braids did not figure into the equation at all...Maybe it's a regional thing?
Here's the story. Sept. 1978. Science fair. Biff from the school camera club is documenting each booth (they can only develop black and white film). To avoid the distracting background, he places a muslim cloth behind each booth. Don't be put-off by little Missy. She always looks sulky.
A Muslim cloth? Like a burqa? Praise Allah.
muslin cloth...sorry
Naw, she's not creepy at all. This is exactly the type of girl I would have been friends with! I like this pic a lot.
The Bad Seed. I see that Add this one thought the same thing (4th comment down).
There are two ponytails and there is one ponytail and there are braids and there are French braids. There are high ponytails and low ponytails as well. If you wind up a ponytail, it's a bun. You can wind up two ponytails and get two buns. I like to wind up two high ponytails to make one bun on each side of my head. That hair style looks good on me. You can also braid a ponytail. That's a ponytail braid. Or you can make one braid down your back without putting it into a ponytail first. There is also a French roll, which is a classic look.
I'm not sure what pigtails are, when referring to hair styles.
I had to get into the pony/pigtail debate. I always thought pigtail was shorter in length and the ponytail was long. And a braid is a braid. I love the photo, sort of a sarcastic disgust.
Those bows in her hair put the icing on the cake.
... and ten years later she became known as Miss Torpedo-Breasts.
