To Die For
FOUND by Regina in Providence, Rhode Island
Found this note in between pages in a book that I checked out from the library. The last line really gets me.

This is so sad. It just opens up a whole world of speculation. Wonder how Dutch is. Hope he's doing well.

I may not know dutch, but i agree, his smile is still to die for.

Man, do I know that feeling. I have a Dutch in my life.

I love how the first person tries to make it seem so dramatic by adding "and then there was silence." It cracks me up.

Cancer, right? And the effects of chemo.

I'd guess you're right, Midlife. I sure hope that Dutch is doing just fine today, has put some healthy weight back on, and his hair is as fine, thick and luxuriant as it used to be.

I also hope he's still knocking the swooning chicks out with that smile.

Could be right, midlife - or he could have gotten out of the military and is growing out that short cut they all get. PT could skinny him down too (as could being in a war zone).

Or, it could be that someone shaved his head as a prank. Maybe he's been taking long hikes since they broke up.

I'd like to think that maybe it's not always the sad scenario. Maybe he's thin because he misses home cooking and doesn't know how to cook (and is too broke to eat out a lot)...

A smile to die for... Totally worth undergoing an akward silence. Love it!

Great story, but no one has remarked on the piece of paper this is written on.

It must relate to an exhibition at the Rhode Island School of Design in 2001, about an Italian family of dressmakers in Providence RI:

-- follow the links from that link for more. Amazing.

That was seven years ago, so I certainly hope Dutch is OK by now.

Of course there was awkward silence! That's what happens when you comment on someone's weight, whether they are overweight or underweight. Remarks on someone's physical appearance are rude since most people are already aware they are fat, skinny, pale, bald, tired looking,etc...

Oh, this one is my favorite!
The last line is both so innocent and generous. Beautiful.

LOL at Wizzy's comment xD

It's notes like these that just get me so curious.
If only there was a way we could find these people..

Wow the beginning of this note makes me think this girl is insanely shallow about how she thinks a cancer patient is way too thin... then she talks about his killer smile.

I suspect Dutch has cancer or something. And if that's true then this chick seems a bit heartless, "Hi....you're so thin. At least his hair has grown back...." WTF

This note makes me so sad but happy at the same time. I can definitely relate to how she feels, whoever she may be.
