Two Days Left to Contribute to the Washington II Washington Camping Trip!

Wow, with everyone’s help, we’ve reached our $6,000 goal– amazing! We’re absolutely blown away by so many people’s generosity, and we’d like to give you all a MASSIVE thank you! Thanks to your contributions, we’ve been able to add seven extra campers — on top of who we’d planned for when we drew up our initial budget — to this year’s trip!

Now that we’ve reached our goal, additional contributions will get us closer to our total trip budget, which is $10,000. We still need significant help to cover the rest of these costs, especially since we’ve added more kids to this year’s trip. Please visit our IndieGoGo fundraising page to contribute what you can and continue to help us spread word about the hike– every dollar makes a huge difference! For more information on the trip, check out our Washington II Washington site or the fundraising page. HUUUUUGE thanks again!

Check Out a Pre-Broadway Workshop of a New Original Musical Based on FOUND!

Based on Davy Rothbart’s popular FOUND books, magazines and tours comes a new musical comedy about the things we’ve lost and the ways they bring us together. Tony-nominated book writer Hunter Bell joins composer/lyricist Eli Bolin, director Lee Overtree, and indie-comedy favorite the Story Pirates troupe in a semi-autobiographical account of Davy’s life and loves, set against a backdrop of the hilarious and heart-breaking real notes and letters he performs around the country. When Davy meets and falls for Kate, a schoolteacher, he is forced to choose between his wild existence on the road and a life with her. Found explores both the objects and the people we encounter along the way, and reveals the stories hidden in plain site in the world around us.

FOUND Magazine’s Denim and Diamonds Tour 2009!

DenimAndDiamondsTour

This spring, to celebrate the release of FOUND’s brand-new book, Requiem for a Paper Bag, our intrepid FOUND road warriors Davy and Peter Rothbart are climbing back in the tour van for a 55-city cross country odyssey. At each exhilarating show, Davy (FOUND’s plucky point guard) will share the latest magnificent and mesmerizing finds that’ve landed in the mailbox here at FOUND HQ, plus hilarious found tales from contributors to the new book including Seth Rogen, Chuck D., Sarah Vowell, Devendra Banhart, and Wire creator David Simon.

Meanwhile, Peter (FOUND’s international heartthrob) will dazzle with a glittering constellation of new breathtaking songs based on FOUND notes. In select cities, Davy and Peter will be joined by FOUND’s sword-swallowing phenom Brett Loudermilk, NYC’s legendary Story Pirates, L.A.’s angel-voiced Watson Twins, and other special surprise guests. Come on out and join us for these parties!! Please bring your finds to share, and please let your friends in other cities know that we’re headed their way!!

Tickets for most of these events are available at the door — details below. We always pack in as many people as possible, but occasionally shows sell out and the venue locks the door, so it never hurts to arrive 15 to 30 minutes early to make sure you get in and get a good seat. At some shows advance tickets are available, and we always recommend picking up advance tickets when possible in case the show sells out, but if you don’t get advance tickets you should still come on down and we can usually get you in!

“Davy and Peter Rothbart are utterly engaging performers!”

FOUND Play: You Found Stuff, Now It’s a Show!

FoundPlay

FOUND has teamed up with the incredibly talented and entertaining NYC comedy troupe Story Pirates for the FOUND Play! They’ve taken some of our favorite finds and built a show featuring musical numbers, video segments, and improv comedy around them, all tied together by musician Eli Bolin’s piano accompaniment. Who stole A.J.’s binder? Why is Tommy still banned from the batting cages? Come to the shows and watch as the Story Pirates playfully fill in the blanks!

And bring some finds to the show—each night the Story Pirates will choose their favorites and incorporate them into the show, as only they can do. We’re really excited to have the Story Pirates as the group to bring the finds to life– they really are some of the best people in the business (Jon Stewart agrees!). So come on out, bring a friend, and enjoy! Pick up tickets from SmartTix.com here.

(And a shout to Alarm Clock Theatre Company for taking a chance on FOUND back in ’05!)
