FOUND by Alicia at Zaytoons Hookah Bar on Myrtle Avenue, Brooklyn, New York City, New York
I started a job as a waitress at a hookah bar in Brooklyn and got stuck alone with the Valentine’s Day shift this week. The owner had recently fired the busboy so it was extra crazy for me– so many couples came in!! I think that’s why we only noticed this homemade Valentine under a table at the very end of my shift. The manager was about to toss the card but I asked to keep it. The giver (Murat I think) had clearly taken so much time to make it. I love the two pigeons on the cover, and the message on the back.

I was leafing through a copy of Kenzaburo Oë’s A Personal Matter and ran across this note that someone had left in the novel. It’s a tough reminder of the transience of life, but especially fitting in this story.
I work at a pool and at the end of the day I walk around and pick up trash. Today I spotted this Valentine underneath the stairs. I hope Drew is okay about losing Missy. For some reason this touched my heart.
Three years ago when I was a case worker, some kid on my caseload brought this letter to me. He had just found it in an alley behind our office. He let me have it when I told him about FOUND Magazine– but I forgot all about it until recently.
This letter was found in Denver, Colorado so I guess Caroline and Ken ended up moving there. I hope that Poe and Rob were able to work it out for Brook’s sake.
