Aug 29, 2012…wow, hot off the press, so to speak.
This Find made me sad. The writer stopped by the graves, and speaks of it as if he (Rex Stout was right, English has no neutral pronoun) had dropped by the house. Maybe they wouldn’t open the door to him while they were still alive. Writer is still hungry for their approval after all this time.
I grew up with an alcoholic sister who eventually drank herself to death. After 3 divorces (that I know about, there may have been more) and multiple evictions, my mom stopped opening the door to her, too. They tried several times to dry her out, put her in rehab, etc. but the drink was always stronger. So sad to watch someone self-destruct.

That Jerry Mathers! I always thought that his Beaver Cleaver character was based on real life, and this looks like proof (120 proof most likely!).

Maybe this person was writing to his deceased parents, and stopped by for a visit to their gravestone? Or maybe he stopped by their actual house and was turned away. Either way, this letter makes me really sad.

Thanks for posting this, Katie. It’s a sad letter, but it sounds like Jerry has found his way out of the darkness that suffocates addicts. Maybe his parents had to let him go for his own (or their) sake. Only a person who loves an addict can understand Jerry’s parents.
    Safe journey, Jerry.
